The new look of the “Open Cloud” with IBM’s PureFlex

Anyone that has a heterogeneous server environment has wistfully looked out over the horizon and wondered, “will I ever be able to simplify my IT infrastructure?”  Managing more than Windows and Linux have traditionally meant the inclusion of proprietary HW platforms to run AIX, HP-UX, iSeries, or Solaris, which adds complexity to every aspect of managing that infrastructure.  Different monitoring tools, replication tools, backup tools, maintenance, and support contracts, etc.

Growing Your non-X86 Infrastructure

The fact that Windows and Linux are more powerful than ever hasn’t removed the need for many organizations to keep and grow their non-x86 infrastructure.  Heterogeneity is not going away anytime soon. Given the environment described above, how is a company ever going to be able to leverage the efficiencies, cost savings, and operational focus provided by “the cloud?”  Most of today’s hosting companies can provide a Windows or Linux VM, but fall surprisingly short when it comes to systems outside those operating systems.

IBM PureFlex

For nearly 15 years, Connectria has been solving this problem for customers in more than 30 countries.  We specialize in managing complex, multi-platform environments running mission-critical environments for 1,000+ customers, including Fortune 100 companies in the financial, insurance, commercial, and entertainment industries. With all of this experience managing heterogeneous environments, the release of IBM’s PureFlex system opens up the opportunity to simplify those environments, reduce the footprint, improve performance, and reduce cost.  The ability to run multiple operating systems (AIX, i/OS, Windows, RedHat, SUSe) and leverage multiple hypervisors (VMware, Hyper-V, and KVM) provides a significant shift in the landscape for owners of mixed platform environments. “The horizon seems closer now. “

Combine the PureFlex system’s consolidation of environments with Connectria’s managed services for all the systems listed above and you have a combination that can truly enable IT to get out of the day to day logistics of owning and operating IT infrastructure.  Connectria’s customers can focus on the strategic aspect of IT – transforming the applications and the data into business results.
